Computers have become an integral part of human existence for several decades. They have cut across time and space enhancing the speed of data communication and information dissemination and also have infinite applications in various fields like Science, technology, commerce, business and entertainment. Study of Computer Science would improve the opportunities of the students in the job market substantially. In tune with these thoughts, the Department of computer Science was started in the year 1998 with an intake of 30 students. The department progressed considerably and witnessed a growth in terms of courses, student strength, faculty and infrastructure. Different courses introduced over the years in B.Sc stream as follows: M.Sc Computer Science in 2003, M.Phil in 2012 and Ph.D in 2012. Currently, it has 12 faculty members, two Assistant programmers and over 320 students working towards their Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees. The department has well furnished computer laboratory with 50 systems. The department has excellent library facilities in which more than 1500 volumes of Books. As with any education institution, students give the department a dynamic character and an active culture towards Computer Science. The Department also moulds young outstanding students who are academically strong and competent enough to achieve their dreams. Apart from teaching postgraduate level Computer Science, the faculty is also involved in research, consultancy and development programs. Special orientation is provided to the staff periodically for updating the latest technological changes. The Department organized an intra-department competition. The Department conducts PowerPoint presentation and Web Design presentation competition for B.Sc and M.Sc computer students every year, awards will be given to the prize winners.
